Women’s Institute Yarn….A review so far

So, what can I tell you about this yarn?

womens institute yarn

It’s perfectly plump!

For a dk weight the yarn strand is divinely round, but all in a good way.  I’m hooking my Charming Harbour blanket in this yarn and let me tell you that it is hooking up into a seriously squishy comforter indeed.

The yarn slides well over my  hook, it feels cozy and comfortable on my skin and has not split or frayed one little bit.

It’s 100%  premium acrylic so is affordable, washable and dryable  and very easy to care for.  The ball band tells me there  is 250m in yarn length for a 100g ball and is exclusive to Hobbycraft.

A minimum of 3p from each ball sold is donated to the National Federation of Women’s Institutes

The Women’s Institute is the largest women’s organisation in the UK  and champions all sorts of campaigns such as gender pay gap to midwifery shortages, climate change and food waste.

On the down side the colour range is basic to say the least, which didn’t matter in the slightest for my Charming Harbour Blanket, which is looking very dapper in a trio tone.

This  could be a limitation for my more usual hook ups which consistently involve numerous colours…however, all in all I’m smiling with this yarn.

Whilst I was enjoying the short daily posts throughout February as part of #yarnlovechallenge I set to work with my hook and some scraps of yarn and made these beautiful may roses by Lucy @Attic24.

With the addition of a hanging loop and a clip, I soon had a little tree full…

This isn’t my library… but probably the world’s smallest library ever, in a phone box!

You can read all about my visit here.

I made these cute little flower bookmarks and left them as a present.

A yarny HUG in 2017

A yarny HUG or Happy Unexpected Gift.

A new project launched here at the nest which will run over the course of 2017.  Aiming to distribute love, joy and hope at random through yarny little gifts.

I will post more about this over the coming weeks.

There will be the chance to join me if you wish,

Take it, embrace it and be a part of it!

Not a lot…but quite a bit!

my poppy
my poppy

This is the sum total of my craftiness this week….not a lot.  This is my poppy made just for me, being as all the previous poppies I had made for myself were oohed and aahed over and taken by my family and friends…not that I minded in the least, I take great joy from knowing that my hooking is appreciated!  I did however run out of the pretty topaz glass beads for the centre, but found these little glossy black beads instead which just makes this one extra special and mine!

I did achieve quite a bit else, this week saw my interview for my Return to Nursing Practice which was on Thursday.  After much of the week re teaching myself fractions and how to do long division and multiplication of decimals (yawn, yawn) I took my numeracy and literacy tests and successfully got through the gruelling interview and so start this new and daunting journey on the 13th January 2015! (cue angelic hosts singing Hallelujah!!)

I hope to make progress this coming week on my own pattern and who knows maybe even finish it so that I can share it with you in time for Christmas.

If you have not read all about the Leibster Award, please take a peek just here, I have 10 nominations to make and if you would like me to nominate you to receive the online award, then just let me know by leaving me a comment.

Remember Them Poppies

So quick and easy to make, the pattern is by Anne Egan and was in this months edition of Simply Crochet.

The actual poppy takes just over 5 minutes to hook up and I added the beads… which took a bit longer and of course the brooch pin on the back

All in all a really quick make… I have had to make several, as friends and family have visited they have all taken one…of course I’ve told them that they still need to make their donation towards the poppy appeal.

A Happy Ripple

A Happy Ripple

Progress this week has been good… despite a trapped nerve!  I have started the ripple afghan by Lucy over at Attic 24, which I am making for a friend at work who has just been made redundant… that bit sucks!

I have chosen happy colours, so that she can snuggle under a rainbow and remember that she will be missed greatly, but also that their is a bright future ahead of her.  So with out any further ado here is the proof of my progress!
