A lovely week

Well put out the crochet bunting….I’ve qualified!…a long hard slog, but it is done.

So of course celebrations have been ongoing (both alcoholic and non alcoholic), but my favourite (and the one I am going to share with you) was a blissful week at home, pretty much to myself.  Doing this sort of thing…

Yes…a lovely week indeed…Now, the hard work really begins! xxx

Hooking al fresco…

I have been so blessed to escape life for one whole week and kick back with the Robins clan…

WP_20160813_20_14_23_ProThe weather was more than kind to us, we even braved the sea for a session of body boarding!  That in itself may not seem that amazing, but if I tell you that the only water that Mama Robins likes is of the hot and bubbly variety…body boarding in the sea was a small miracle (it was so much fun too!).

InstagramCapture_4cd5d3ea-d57d-47ed-8631-cfc17f410c9bOf course I got some hooking in; mostly on the go.  Instead of taking a mammoth project like I usually do, I took just one hook and a single ball of yarn.  I didn’t even take a pattern and made it up as I went…

WP_20160817_15_55_02_Pro

The yarn was the hank I had won a few months ago all the way from South Africa from Joey over at her fabulous blog, Littleblackdog, which you can read about here.

InstagramCapture_d6cd7a58-1408-4400-99e6-4f8c05f068f5The freedom of just one hook and a little bit of yarn meant I hooked every where…beach hooky….pool side hooky…farm hooky…

WP_20160817_19_35_55_ProI met the coolest sheep too, just take a look at him.

WP_20160820_15_21_49_ProBut I think the most yarniest place we visited was this place…

WP_20160818_12_59_15_ProClovelly…a tiny village of quaint cottages that seemed to tumble down into the harbour.  The cobbled street is so steep that it is unsuitable for vehicles and can only be accessed on foot or by donkey.  To stay overnight at the cutest bed and breakfast, your belongings are transported from the car park at the top to your accommodation by sledge…yes, I said sledge!!

WP_20160818_14_49_01_ProThe steep journey down is rewarded with an 18th Century harbour which the boy Robins loved. Taking much delight in hurling rocks into the sea with a catapult!

WP_20160818_13_15_27_ProWP_20160818_13_26_11_ProBut, I digress slightly…yes, it is a yarny place.  On the way down I discovered this beautiful doorway

WP_20160818_13_11_31_ProAnd this little cottage with a yarny roof

And a yarn bombed lamp post

WP_20160818_15_08_51_ProAnd of course I did a bit of my own hooking.

Hooking al fresco has proved quite satisfying indeed.

Graffiti Robin…

*There is still time to enter the yarny give-a-way here*

I stumbled upon an arty robin last weekend, well I say stumbled… it was more like rode.  I dusted off Bella and wheeled her out into the day light, hoiked her onto the bike rack and off we all went.

WP_20160731_16_37_23_ProIt had been way too long since the last time we had an afternoon out in the countryside together, and as we cycled our cares flew from us and we felt light.  We stopped at points to play in the stream

InstagramCapture_f7681672-3d28-4f73-89d4-39967061704brace each other,

WP_20160731_16_02_08_Proor just to admire the scenery and breathe out.

WP_20160731_16_02_03_ProAnd then we stumbled upon this…

WP_20160731_16_26_57_Pro(You may have to lean back and  squint a little)….Not everyone’s cup of tea, but talented and arty non the less, and it made us smile!

We rode on some  more, and returned home fulfilled and tired.  The perfect excuse to put up my feet and get out my hook.

InstagramCapture_a30fea23-613a-4f2f-8788-4163b29b22ddI didn’t move until I had finished the main body of this Very V blanket, but I had been undisciplined throughout and had not woven in the ends as I had been hooking!!!  Oh my, that is what I have been doing this week…Its a good job I don’t mind weaving in those ends isn’t it!

Now to border it before next Friday…

Looking for the lovliness…

Well, I’m sorry for my noted absence, there are just two weeks left until exam and essay deadlines and to be truthful  I’m worried that one of the boys might fall into the laundry pile and never be seen again!

I’m shattered and busy, busy, busy… my mind has many yarny creations whizzing around and I really need some colour therapy, but I feel overwhelmed and hence my hook has fallen silent (temporarily).  So to keep my creative mind sane I have been looking for the lovliness that surrounds me daily… and taking photo’s…this is April.

Where did that week go!

Well where did that last week go to?

With only about 8 waking hours left of the spring break, to cram in as much  fun as possible…I will leave you with some photo’s which capture my week.

waiting…walking and a wooly dilemma…

As I have been waiting extremely patiently for the postman to bring me a yarn shaped parcel; walking has featured as a daily pass time since the weather has been so cheery.

WP_20160328_16_05_54_Pro

We have stomped over fields in the sunshine,

WP_20160328_16_07_03_Pro

rambled down pathways

WP_20160328_16_12_01_Pro

and climbed over gates.

WP_20160328_16_17_16_Pro

We have wandered through woodlands and I have admired the dappled sunshine dancing on the ground.  In the evenings I have been hooking this…

WriteOnImage635951127893990240

a light weight artfully simple angled scarf (designed by the very talented Tamara over at Moogly) in a 4 ply Sirdar country style yarn.  The colour is 0392….meh!  I do so dislike it when a colour just has a number and not a name.  It is a beautiful old pastel pink, which now I have started, I cant put down.

WP_20160330_12_48_29_Pro

Still waiting…we have visited orchards

WP_20160330_13_44_22_Pro

and  walled gardens

WP_20160330_12_39_49_Proand stumbled across these little guys (very cute indeed).

WP_20160330_14_48_40_Pro

Finally, a yarn shaped parcel arrived and a dilemma.

WP_20160330_14_49_32_Pro

Well, I just couldn’t resist this gorgeous wool alpaca blend in (0519) or charcoal grey.

WP_20160401_18_06_50_Pro

Nor this beautiful compilation of cotton.  So, now I have the Robins nest squares to finish, my artfully simple angled scarf and new yarn screaming “hook me, hook me!”  What a fabulously fantastic woolly dilemma to be in. xxxxx

The Lion, the witch, the wardrobe and the sunflower…

I spent such a lovely afternoon at the theatre yesterday, in fact I have done nothing but have lovely afternoons lately.

WP_20151227_15_50_02_Pro

Good old Santa left us a family treat at the bottom of our stocking, tickets to see The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and it was simply MAGICAL, if you get the opportunity to book and go it is well worth a visit.

WP_20151227_15_50_09_Pro

The Rep, is such a small theatre, but a gem in the heart of the city.  I can honestly say we were all enthralled.

Pretty Pumpkins

Oh, my delight in these pretty pumpkins.  Whilst we do not celebrate 31st October, halloween in the Robins nest, we do celebrate light in this beautiful, busy and sometimes dark world.  As you know I love autumn, and pumpkins certainly contain light and autumnal(ness) in abundance.

wpid-dsc_0737.jpg

I also love spending time with friends and that is exactly what is happening here tonight.  We are having some very dear friends over to mark the very significant occasion of our homes transition  from ‘no space to have anyone around’ to ‘being able to say come on over for supper’ a transition which has taken many years.

wpid-dsc_0740.jpg
the chickens enjoyed a pumpkin feast

So with a three bean chilli and a hearty beef chilli planned for later, accompanied by a bottle or two of red, these pretty pumpkins will help to create the perfect atmosphere for chatter and laughter late into the night.
