classroom cushions

It’s that time of year…thinking of suitable teachers gifts.  This year I have both my summer and autumn robin moving to secondary school, so I wanted to gift their teachers something special…

fat and squishy

Well you might have known it would be something yarny!… isn’t it just lovely, a glorious blooming flower cushion for the classroom, made in their favourite colour-ways of course.

and a cute hand made notion on the back.

This one reminds me of the ripples in a pool…and then there is the pretty purple petals cushion

I chose to fill these cushions with 12″ feather cushion fillers which gives these classroom cushions a real plumpness which will last. With my new lounge almost at decorating stage I think that there will be more cushions coming off my hook very soon.

And the winner is…

So, today is the day to draw the winner of

the yarny give-a-way.

What better way to cheer up a very rainy day…I have relished this lazy Saturday…in the rain,

mooching around town in the rain

I gathered supplies for a rainy day activity for the little robins

and could not resist these bright sunny gerberas

After lunch the boys settled in for the afternoon with a movie…which gave Mr R and myself the opportunity to deploy ‘operation laser alley’

our hallway became a laser alley

and then we enjoyed a coffee together and waited for the boys to discover their mission…and while we waited I began the yarny robin give-a-way draw

Blooming Joyful…

How fun is this?….

Work in progress

I’m getting so much joy from hooking up this absolutely lovely pattern…that I just had to share it with you all before it’s even finished.  You will have guessed that it is another from Attic 24…the linky thing is just here.

weaving in the ends and life….

A couple of days ago…after 3 weeks of working shifts on placement as well as working my regular job and juggling Easter holidays with the robins and studying until the wee small hours…..crazy, absolute crazy…. I had the day off!

this is what sanity looks like!
this is what sanity looks like!

Who would have thought that weaving in ends (millions of the things) could be so therapeutic… but it was.  The warmth of the spring sunshine and the peacefulness of being by myself…the boys went off making all sorts of dens with big branches…close enough so that their laughter made my heart smile, but far enough to just allow me to breathe and weave in ends.

I love these colors

all done....just like my placement!
and the view

A busy few weeks, which explains, my absence here…it is so good to have a hook back in my hand.  This giant granny is a long over due gift for a very special lady…who is patiently waiting.  The colour way is delicate and pretty and of course it’s good old stylecraft special dk.

So, I need to get this wrapped and mailed, before the second wave of study hits…

Another busy week…

It’s been another busy week at the Robins Nest…but we have still found time to get together and just be together…and I love that!

with University and work and the boys, life is taking over somewhat and not much hooking has been done.  I have one blanket that is almost done and that I really want to get finished and sent off before I start my placement at the hospital in a couple of weeks.  It’s just a simple granny and I am so near to finishing…

Since this photo I have added a 3″ border of the base colour, which has given it a more finished edge…just deciding whether to fringe or not…What do you think?

Simply classic

This is my latest finish and to be honest it has been uplifting to have a quick win with this one.  It has been a a joy to hook and because the yarn was aran weight and I could use a larger hook, it grew at a pace.

The yarn is of course my trusted Stylecraft Special Aran in cream and I did not get to choose the colour this time, as this is an order… I have really enjoyed working in one tone, and the pattern lends itself beautifully to a block of one colour.  I will most certainly be returning to this pattern, details of which can be found below.  The really fabulous part of this blanket is that the back looks just as pretty as the front …

AWOL

I LOVE THIS!!!
I LOVE THIS!!!

I just wanted to let you all know that I am still alive and kicking…. what a hectic few weeks… juggling university with work and family…is proving tricky.  I have not had much time for craftiness, but I have managed a little.  Here are some pictures to prove it…

home made chocolate hearts
home made chocolate hearts

Valentines was a home made affair as you can see… the chocolates were very simple to make and strangely didn’t last for long as they were so delicious!

date jar
date jar

With my trusty glue gun, buttons, some lolly pop sticks and a jam jar I made Mr. R a date jar… it really is awesome and it is not only very simple to do, it’s really fun to use… most of the dates are virtually cost free and a lot of them don’t require a baby sitter as they are home dates.  My inspiration was drawn from pinterest and if you are thinking of recreating your own then take a look here for some date inspiration.

I have also been hooking a giant granny blanket, for a friend…but I do not have any pics yet…I will try to get some tomorrow.

It’s short and sweet, but it feels good to be back!

The End of my Cosy Journey

The 'His and Her's cosy blanket
The ‘His and Her’s cosy blanket

As promised, here are the pictures of the ‘His and Her’s Cosy blanket’ set.  This most enjoyable hooky adventure started back in November 2014, when I fell upon this oh so easy and yet oh so fulfilling pattern, details of which I will list at the end of this post, so you too can embark on your very own cosy escapade.

'her's'
‘her’s’

The colour way is simply delicious and has the romance of femininity, which just flounces through the overall blanket, making it just perfect for wrapping up in.  For details of yarn and colours, please see below.

‘his’

The colour way of the ‘his’ blanket was inspired by the Eastern Bluebird, both blankets incorporate 15 different colours, 7 of which are common in both, and have identical row placement, giving them the same overall tone and therefore linking them as a set.

Each blanket is bordered with 4 rows of colour, the first 2 rows being shared by each blanket

If the truth be told, I’m missing hooking these beautiful blankets… I really have enjoyed my journey and I will definitely be returning to this pattern again and again.  I will leave you with some more pictures and the links below.

A yarny Angel

This divine angel is made by hooking 2 small granny squares and assembling with a few bits and pieces.  I made mine in a white yarn with a silver sparkle…the pattern is by the very talented Priscilla Hewitt  (search Granny square angel on her site) and is super simple to follow and in no time at all you could have your own host….
