I’m getting so much joy from hooking up this absolutely lovely pattern…that I just had to share it with you all before it’s even finished. You will have guessed that it is another from Attic 24…the linky thing is just here.
With a huge sigh… I have finished my assignment and therefore my course…full of self doubt but clinging to my battered motto…BRAVE… feeling weary I felt it time to self soothe, so this is what I did…
addictive!
I got my hook back out…
chives and parsley
I created a little herb bench on the patio… I still have some lemon mint to pot up.
pink and white fragoo
Planted strawberries…
summer trailing boxes
planted summer tubs with hot pinks and sunny yellow trailers
Mrs Butterfly like the parsley…
I stopped…and was still and just noticed (with my camera)
Last weekend, we went to collect the newest addition to our family… on our way we stopped of with friends and ambled over the sheep fields in the most glorious of sunshine…
up the windy roadover the gatepast fields about to burst into bold, rape flowerover the fieldsthen finally at the topjust perfect for kite flyingtold you!Taz enjoyed all the funnot so sure about the sheep…pretty pale lemon primroses still in bloomand blossom on the trees
All in all a perfect April afternoon…and here is Percy…
Percy…our cockerel, a fine black silkie…the girls were pleased!!
A couple of days ago…after 3 weeks of working shifts on placement as well as working my regular job and juggling Easter holidays with the robins and studying until the wee small hours…..crazy, absolute crazy…. I had the day off!
this is what sanity looks like!
Who would have thought that weaving in ends (millions of the things) could be so therapeutic… but it was. The warmth of the spring sunshine and the peacefulness of being by myself…the boys went off making all sorts of dens with big branches…close enough so that their laughter made my heart smile, but far enough to just allow me to breathe and weave in ends.
I love these coloursand the view
A busy few weeks, which explains, my absence here…it is so good to have a hook back in my hand. This giant granny is a long over due gift for a very special lady…who is patiently waiting. The colour way is delicate and pretty and of course it’s good old stylecraft special dk.
So, I need to get this wrapped and mailed, before the second wave of study hits…
It’s been another busy week at the Robins Nest…but we have still found time to get together and just be together…and I love that!
through the gate and down the path…
enjoying the very new spring sunshine
a birds eye view from the top
whose home could this be?
grape hyacinths
and tete a tetes
looking very spring like in my kitchen windowbox
with University and work and the boys, life is taking over somewhat and not much hooking has been done. I have one blanket that is almost done and that I really want to get finished and sent off before I start my placement at the hospital in a couple of weeks. It’s just a simple granny and I am so near to finishing…
Alpine Nanna
Since this photo I have added a 3″ border of the base colour, which has given it a more finished edge…just deciding whether to fringe or not…What do you think?
This is my latest finish and to be honest it has been uplifting to have a quick win with this one. It has been a a joy to hook and because the yarn was aran weight and I could use a larger hook, it grew at a pace.
warm and soft
chunky and drapes well
a no fuss edge
rows of popcorn stitches
The yarn is of course my trusted Stylecraft Special Aran in cream and I did not get to choose the colour this time, as this is an order… I have really enjoyed working in one tone, and the pattern lends itself beautifully to a block of one colour. I will most certainly be returning to this pattern, details of which can be found below. The really fabulous part of this blanket is that the back looks just as pretty as the front …
the back
perfect for any new born.

I just wanted to let you all know that I am still alive and kicking…. what a hectic few weeks… juggling university with work and family…is proving tricky. I have not had much time for craftiness, but I have managed a little. Here are some pictures to prove it…
home made chocolate hearts
Valentines was a home made affair as you can see… the chocolates were very simple to make and strangely didn’t last for long as they were so delicious!
date jar
With my trusty glue gun, buttons, some lolly pop sticks and a jam jar I made Mr. R a date jar… it really is awesome and it is not only very simple to do, it’s really fun to use… most of the dates are virtually cost free and a lot of them don’t require a baby sitter as they are home dates. My inspiration was drawn from pinterest and if you are thinking of recreating your own then take a look here for some date inspiration.
I have also been hooking a giant granny blanket, for a friend…but I do not have any pics yet…I will try to get some tomorrow.
It’s short and sweet, but it feels good to be back!
These are my first attempts at scrumbles…the term given to little pieces of crochet that are hooked without pattern or chart and from the mind only. Sounds easy right? Well yes and no!
Easy yes, just put together a series of stitches in any order you like, in any yarn what so ever. And no, without guidelines it felt a little strange at first…was I hooking a mistake…
from what I have read there is no right or wrong way to hook up a scrumble.
So what do you do with these scrumbles? Well that’s easy too… freeform.
Freeform crochet has fascinated me for many, many months now. It has also scared me a little too if I’m honest. But, it is so beautiful that I just had to have a go.
So these are my scrumbles…I’ve jumped in and I’m glad that I have. These scrumbles are destined for my new pattern that I will be sharing with you very soon.
It may be cold and wintry, grey and dull, but my girls, Betty, Bo, Heidi and Sunita have done me proud…after a hiatus in egg production, look at what I found this morning….I am just delighted and am thinking of an omelette to celebrate. Spring can not be too far around the corner now… look at what else I have found today whilst I was walking with the dogs…
daffodils
The daffodils in the park are piercing through the earth, announcing ‘new beginnings’ for that is what their name means. Its bright yellow trumpet like appearance, boldly and beautifully exclaiming the hope of Spring and reminding me of the resillience of nature.
The very sight of these eggs and daffodils today has caused me to feel such a reassuring and familiar peace nestled alongside a quickening of excitement in my soul….unexpected happiness.
This is just a quick update for a year of projects, or YOP as I have being referring to it through out my posts. We are actually about half way through this year long project…yes it started in Summer 2014!
I just had to stop the car the other day for this cheeky chappy!
I have not submitted a YOP post for a while, mainly as I had been working on these cosy blankets …and I have not much else to offer, in terms of started or completed projects on my YOP list. I have however, had a few sleepless nights, during which my mind has been turning over plans and patterns and I have been honing my skills over this last couple of weeks, learning new stitches and techniques, which I will take great joy in sharing with you over the coming days and weeks.
I am preparing a new pattern for you too, which will use some free form crochet and maybe even some felting and use of texture…which, I hope in turn will feed into a crochet wall hanging, which I plan and that does feature on my YOP list. So for now that is my YOP update…just in case you were thinking I had fallen off the face of the Earth all together. If you are not participating in YOP, but would like to, you can still join in… check it out just here.
