The smallest achievement is better than the greatest intention…

Here it is all complete… and I

love, love, love it. ย

Made from scraps, excluding the edging, this little blanket has provided me with the hooky colour therapy that I so needed. ย I had made many of these charming squares at the end of other projects, not really being sure of their final purpose.

mini squares made from scraps

Perhaps a cushion or a giant blanket I thought, big enough for all the robins to snuggle under…yes! that is what I decided upon, a large endeavour of love made from these little, beautiful components and so I started. And so it has remained, unloved at times or loved from afar, but most certainly unfinished and alas my latest commitments made the hooky pleasure of this project impossible.

I love a simple granny!
I love a simple granny!

No, a king sized blanket out of tiny granny squares became a lingering burden…and so with some considerable heaviness, the white yarn was carefully frogged. ย I felt a sense of failure as I unravelled those stitches and was once again left with a glut of granny’s

a glut of granny's
a glut of granny’s

So, I counted my granny’s out….97….and thought on a smaller scale…hooked 3 more little ones and decided on this 100 granny patch baby blanket.

and as I hooked them back together, in a different way and with a different yarn and with a different purpose, the feeling of failure ebbed away and a new joy arose.

and I discovered that the smallest achievement is always better than the greatest intention… and this little blanket still conveys a large endeavour of love.

Whilst this blog started as a catalogue of my crafty life and has never been about the number of hits or the number of followers, I have been amazed and humbled over the last 12 months by the huge amount of encouragement and support I have received in terms of folk reading and liking my posts and leaving me such lovely comments…

THANK YOU ALL.

Have a fabulous week.

Another busy week…

It’s been another busy week at the Robins Nest…but we have still found time to get together and just be together…and I love that!

with University and work and the boys, life is taking over somewhat and not much hooking has been done. ย I have one blanket that is almost done and that I really want to get finished and sent off before I start my placement at the hospital in a couple of weeks. ย It’s just a simple granny and I am so near to finishing…

Since this photo I have added a 3″ border of the base colour, which has given it a more finished edge…just deciding whether to fringe or not…What do you think?

Beautifully Chilly

My usual walk with the dogs lately has just been so beautiful….chilly at an average of -3, but beautiful. ย The bright, freezing mornings that fill my lungs with crisp air have also cast long shadows, which make me smile, as I make the short journey over to the fields with Alf and Jess.

a look over my shoulder

This is my end of 2014 review… a chance for me to look over my shoulder and reflect on the last 6 months…yes…this little sanctuary of mine is 6 months old and as we trip in to 2015, I feel both excited and content, which I think is a good place to be.

June 2014 saw not only the birth of ayarnyrobin… but the completion of my friendship blanket.

Cosy Afternoon

Today I have had a lovely cosy afternoon hooking happily, listening to the radio, I will show you some pictures of that gorgeousness in a minute.

down by the brook
down by the brook

ย This however, is where I walked this morning with the dogs, unbelievable that ย this little path which runs alongside the brook, is just 2 minutes away from my home.

going up the hill

This morning was so sunny, but very cold, in fact my little thermometer read -0.5 degrees centigrade, so I didn’t stop for long but instead walked briskly up the hill!

at the top!
at the top!

Once at the top I was rewarded with this… I see this most days as this is where I walk the dogs, however, today I appreciated it more than ever…maybe the bitter cold coupled with the glorious sunshine had something to do with it.

Little Jess enjoyed it too, Alf didn’t hang around for his photo! ย Anyway, here are the pictures of ‘that gorgeousness’ I promised you…this is what I have been hooking this afternoon

Yes this is the glorious, heavenly to hook Cosy blanket which is currently part of a crochet along that is being hosted by the enormously talented Lucy of Attic 24. ย This one is the ‘her’ part of the ‘his and hers’ set I am making for my Mom and Dad for Christmas….the colour way is beautiful and is from the Attic 24 shop at Wool Warehouse and comes as a pack called ‘cottage’… my Dad’s colours I selected individually and look like this

My Dad’s blanket will be the same pattern as my Mom’s to complete the set. ย  Do you want to have a look at that pattern again… close up
