“Sunset is my favourite colour

and rainbow is second”

Mattie Stepanek

I am fascinated by colour, that is why I absolutely love yarns and fabrics and dishes of buttons and boxes of ribbon and rik rak and scrapbooking papers and… ahem…Sorry, I just drifted off into a wonderful colour bubble of lovliness….aahhh!

I love colour and am influenced with my colour choices from all around… here is a little of my inspiration…

Incidentally, black, white, creams, neutrals  and the grey scale are not found on the colour wheel, but can be used to good effect

Shades of One colour can be calming and relaxing

Frequently, however I find myself overwhelmed by colour at the start of a project, whether it’s crochet or patchwork. Finished blocks and projects can look so completley different when made in different colour schemes… dont you think?  So often, I have completley decided on my next project, only to procrastinate and dilly dally about which colour scheme to use, because usually I have at least 3 in mind… how to choose!!

There is always the colour wheel to help, choosing colours next to each other work well together, or for adding an accent colour choose colours that are opposite on the wheel!

I almost envy those who have set colour schemes that they seem to always work with, as generally their work is always awesome and once you’ve found a colour scheme that rocks,  everything you produce from then on, well it’s gonna rock, right?  Me, however I just cant resist colours, they seduce me and thats why I get overwhelmed.

Colour has powerful links with mood and emotion too, it is so much more than pink for a girl and blue for a boy!  In the animal kingdom colour is used as a way of communication and in Victorian times flower colour communicated a variety of meanings, talking of which have you read The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh, it’s an awesome fiction read!

  1. I am right there with you trying to pick yarns for my YOP’s. At first I went crazy with brights but they were too loud and then I went dark and drab and that was too drab and now I am leaning toward color but muted and heathered. I absolutely adore your patchwork pillowcase colors. Let’s face it…when it comes to color I am very fickle. LOL!
