I posted earlier in the week about my big disaster in the Christmas present crochet arena… a calamity which at any other time I would have perceived as a mishap, but at this time of year, has escalated into an undue burden, helped only in that it was as a consequence of a school girl error on my part…in short I only had myself to blame!!
After long evenings of hard pressed hooking I have completed the body of the ‘her’ part of the ‘his and hers’ blanket set…and have commenced the ‘his’ blanket. To relieve the pressure, I have decided to set my goal more realistically and I aim to have both blankets finished to border stage…after all Christmas is all about love and as the intended recipients are my Mom and Dad and they love me very much…I can complete the borders if necessary on Boxing Day.
The Cosy Cottage blanket is just so beautifully girly and I have, despite my error, loved, loved, loved hooking it… I think my Mom will be so pleased with the colours too. I have followed the colour sequence that Lucy from Attic 24, used in her cottage ripple blanket, take a look if you want all the details of Lucy’s exquisite colour placement.
This is how the ‘his’ blanket, which I am naming the Eastern Bluebird Cosy blanket is looking so far…
I love how the essence of the blanket changes and grows with each colour band that is lovingly added.
Guess what I’m off to do now…. yes, this cosy journey continues.

Wow, I’m impressed! Those are beautiful! This year my mom and dad are getting slippers, but maybe next year I’ll start early enough to venture into blanket territory. Very nice!

Good luck getting the blanket done by Christmas. I am sure that you will succeed. In the mean time, you have given me another great idea for a scarf. I recently tired of a complicated baby blanket worked in a repeated series of rows. I looked at it one day and thought, what a beautiful pattern and what a handsome (and really warm) scarf this would make! LOL I’m giving it to may sister for Christmas this year! I can’t count how many unfinished WIPs I’ve wrap, gifted and then taken back to finish. I also recall sitting up most of Christmas eve to finish a sweater. And was it just two years ago that my husband had to pull over at a rest stop so that I could sew in two more ends and wrap a present that we were enroute to deliver?! Christmas is for spending time with family and friends – done or not done, it’s all good!

Very beautiful on both works. I’m sure they will be loved and appreciated when they are finished, even if they are not completed on Christmas Day. I just managed to finish my last afghan for my grandchildren early this morning, and am now wondering what to do for the next 10 days. I know what to do, work on the market bags I am making, but I feel such a let down after finishing the afghans that it’s hard to pick up my hook again.
Your afghan colors are so pretty, so well matched. I love them both, and envy your Mom hers.

I too find that coming to the end of a blanket is a mixed bag. …I love to see it finished but miss hooking it….that’s why I like to blog about each blankets story xx

WOW so beautiful, please forgive my ignorance, I’m only starting out on my crochet quest, what are the combination of stitches you are using on your rows as they look stunning, I’d dearly love to have a go at a similar project

The stitches are all treble stitches (double crochet if you use US terminology) it would be a good blanket to try…maybe do a swatch and see how you go xx

You made great progress on the ‘hers’ blanket after having to take so much of it out. I think you will be all done with the body of the ‘his’ by Christmas too. Parents are so wonderful and so understanding about this type of thing. They will just be delighted that you though so much of them to make something so personal for each of them.
